Incredible GTA 6 Screenshot Has Gamers Questioning Its Authenticity
Earlier today, new details emerged about the music and radio stations set to feature in Grand Theft Auto 6, along with some fresh screenshots. One particular image showcasing cars on a rainy street at night has sparked excitement and speculation about whether GTA 6 will actually look this good on consoles. The consensus? It likely will, at least in part.
On October 8, it was announced that several well-known artists, including Bad Bunny, will host radio stations in GTA 6. We also received our first official confirmation of these stations and the genres they’ll feature, along with the ability to listen to them while on foot via your phone. However, a background screenshot from the announcement caught the attention of many, myself included.
In this screenshot, we see various cars and pedestrians navigating a rainy street in the heart of Vice City at night. The neon lights of the Ocean View Hotel illuminate the buildings and the slick pavement, with reflections of cars and the environment visible in the puddles. The visuals are stunning, leading to a mix of awe and skepticism among fans, with some questioning the authenticity of the image or fearing it might be enhanced beyond what the actual game can deliver on a PS5 this November.
“Ain’t no way that first screenshot is real; it looks so good,” one user commented on social media.
“Thought these were renders, but actual shots?” another user wondered.
Digital Foundry’s Oliver Mackenzie chimed in when contacted by a GTA content creator, suggesting that Rockstar might be utilizing a debug photo mode to maximize resolution and settings for the shot. However, Mackenzie noted that a closer inspection reveals some visual flaws that hint it could be a screenshot from the game running on a PS5 Pro, though “it’s not really possible to tell.”
It’s not flawless, though. The reflections on the semi-gloss road and sidewalk appear somewhat messy, suggesting they might reflect console settings. For instance, reflections in the background show noticeable dithering, a common issue in console games in 2026. Additionally, shadows are missing under distant pedestrians, and if you zoom in on the far background, you can spot what seem to be lower-poly characters.
Historically, Rockstar has relied on genuine in-game and in-engine footage for marketing materials. When GTA V was on the horizon, many speculated that the screenshots were touched up or captured on high-end PCs. However, looking back at GTA V’s Xbox 360 images in 2026, it’s clear they were taken directly from the game, possibly using a debug tool to enhance settings and lighting. This trend holds true for other Rockstar titles like Red Dead, Bully, and Max Payne 3.
It seems likely that Rockstar is running the game on a PS5 Pro devkit and using a debug menu to capture a high-resolution screenshot. While the final game may not always look this pristine, it’s safe to say that GTA 6 will deliver stunning visuals at night on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X. As for Xbox Series S players, well, they might need to brace themselves.
