Final Fantasy VII Revelation Cast Shares Their Favorite Co-Stars to Team Up With

Voice acting in video games can often feel like a solo endeavor, with many actors recording their lines in isolation. While motion capture technology has allowed for more collaborative performances, a significant number of roles still require actors to deliver their lines in a booth, often reacting to pre-recorded performances from their peers. In the case of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, cast members frequently find themselves matching the intensity of their fellow actors’ recordings to maintain the energy of each scene. Despite the challenges of not always being in the same room, the cast members have their favorite collaborators and shared some insights during a panel at New York City Comic Con.

Panel host Lucy James prompted the cast to discuss their favorite performances and whether they had scene partners who inspired them. Each actor had unique responses.

Max Mittelman (Red XIII) mentioned that he often requests a line from Cait Sith before recording his own, saying, “I love the accent, so I’ve probably asked 20 times for them to play your line for me in the booth.”

Matt Mercer (Vincent) reflected on his dynamic with Yuffie, stating, “I’ve had a number of scenes with Yuffie and Vincent, two very different personalities on adventures together. It’s been so fun to listen to the energy you’re bringing to it and figure out how I could just be the wall that stops it.”

Suzie Yeung (Yuffie) expressed her enthusiasm for their interactions, saying, “I love our scenes together. It’s gonna be amazing.”

John Eric Bentley (Barret) shared his excitement about working with others, noting, “I was just asking for anybody who I was responding to. There’s stuff that we get to do… it’s just like, ‘Oh my gosh, I get to talk to you, Paul [Tinto, voice of Cait Sith].'”

Britt Baron (Tifa) pointed out the isolation of recording, saying, “I actually don’t get to hear most of your performances until the game comes out. Once in a while, if I’m lucky, they will play Cloud stuff for me… I feel like I sound like trash compared to what he’s doing.”

Cody Christian (Cloud) shared his appreciation for the interactions with Tifa, highlighting the emotional depth Britt brings to their scenes. “You bring out emotions that are very strong and just truthful,” he said.

Briana White (Aerith) praised Britt’s performance, noting, “Her Tifa voice, the way that she is so soft and strong… we complemented each other so well in so many of the scenes.”

Caleb Pierce (Zack) acknowledged Briana’s impact on his performance, saying, “When they play some of the lines that you’ve done, it can calm me and ground me.”

Travis Willingham (Sephiroth) humorously commented on Mercer, while also expressing admiration for Max’s work, sharing a personal moment about his son’s connection to Red XIII.

Mercer chimed in, reflecting on his excitement as a fan of Final Fantasy VII and how he felt elated by the performances of his fellow cast members.

J. Michael Tatum (Cid) shared his own journey with the franchise, expressing disbelief at being part of the cast and how hearing others’ performances helped him find his character.

Christian added a final note, praising Briana for their heavy scenes together, emphasizing the emotional weight of their performances.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is set to launch on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2 on April 8.
