Marvel Unveils New Spy-Thriller Series: Zodiac
Marvel isn’t finished with live-action television just yet. At New York Comic Con, Marvel Studios unveiled an exciting new series called Zodiac, set to premiere on Disney Plus in 2028.
Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television, and animation, confirmed the show’s development at NYCC, describing it as a “spy thriller” that will begin filming in London in spring 2027. Casting is currently underway.
In the Marvel Comics universe, Zodiac refers to various criminal organizations whose members are inspired by the Western zodiac signs, often led by a character named Taurus. These groups typically serve as adversaries to the Avengers and SHIELD. While it’s uncertain if the upcoming Zodiac series will connect to this established roster of supervillains, the title features an “O” reminiscent of the zodiac wheel and an “A” that incorporates the eagle from SHIELD’s emblem.
Additionally, in the comics, the Zodiac was a coalition of leaders from various factions, including Hydra, SHIELD, and the Hand, brought together by a character known as Aries—who was actually Leonardo da Vinci! This assembly aimed to reclaim powerful artifacts and included notable figures like Nick Fury, his brother Jake Fury, Dum Dum Dugan from the Howling Commandos, Baron Strucker, and the Hydra agent Kraken, among others.
Marvel Television has notably reduced its live-action production efforts in recent years. Earlier this year, a second season of the Disney Plus series Wonder Man was announced, only to be unexpectedly canceled a few months later. Fans are still waiting for updates on sequels to shows like Moon Knight, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel. However, the third and final season of Daredevil: Born Again is set to release next year, alongside a new series, VisionQuest, debuting on Disney Plus next week. Despite rumors of a complete halt to live-action series, Marvel Television reportedly has between three and five shows actively in development.
On the animation front, Marvel Television has plenty in store. A second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is set to arrive in January, along with a third season of X-Men ’97 and three standalone Marvel Zombies specials headed to Disney Plus.
Here’s a look at what Marvel Studios and Marvel Television have lined up.
