New HomeKit Features Unveiled: ‘Tap to Control’ Functionality from Apple and LG
A recent post on X from a user known for sharing leaks and renders related to Apple and LG smart home products reveals intriguing details about potential new Apple Home accessories from LG. The leak suggests the introduction of an NFC-based “Proximity Control” feature, which would display device control hints in the iPhone’s Dynamic Island simply by bringing the phone close to the device. This feature is said to utilize the Matter protocol but appears to be tailored specifically for Apple Home. This follows another leak from the previous day that mentioned a “tap to setup without power” pairing feature along with other upcoming devices.
Apple has scheduled a “Welcome home” event for October 13th, where more information may be unveiled regarding a new smart home hub with a display, an updated HomePod Mini, and a new Apple TV. The user claims that the tap-to-control feature has been present in code since iOS 27.0, and another source has noted HomeKit code in an iOS 27.2 beta that suggests smart home controls could be integrated into the Dynamic Island.
