Astarion Takes on a Serial Killer in New Baldur’s Gate 3 Comic Series

Larian Studios’ hit RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3, is brimming with captivating characters, but the standout has to be the charming vampire spawn rogue, Astarion Ancunín. This sassy undead heartthrob has already inspired a prequel novel penned by T. Kingfisher, and now he’s set to take center stage in a new comic series announced at a recent convention.

The first six issues of the Baldur’s Gate 3 comic will follow Astarion as he breaks free from the grip of his vampire master, Cazador Szarr, during the game’s events. With new dangers emerging in Waterdeep, Astarion must delve into a series of ritual murders before he becomes the next target.

The comic will feature a talented team: Alyssa Wong will handle the writing, Vincenzo Carratù will provide the pencils, Elisabetta D’Amico will ink the pages, Valentina Taddeo will add color, and Buddy Beaudoin will take care of the lettering. Fans can look forward to five variant covers showcasing artwork from Gerald Parel, Scott Fischer, Angela Wu, and Tyler Walpole.

Following Astarion’s story, Baldur’s Gate 3 will continue with a 12-issue arc featuring the tiefling barbarian, Karlach, as she journeys through the Nine Hells. This storyline will be crafted by Becky Cloona and illustrated by Francesco Scimonelli.

In other news, the world of Dungeons & Dragons is set to revisit the post-apocalyptic realm of Dark Sun in 2027. A trilogy of standalone graphic novels from Dark Horse will also explore the wasteland of Athas, starting with the tale of Tikat, a Thri-kreen gladiator on a mission to protect his friend Wik from a formidable psionic. Alongside the cannibal Kavora, this unlikely trio must navigate the city of Tyr, battling through hordes of enemies to uncover the identity of their mysterious adversary.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Sun will be written by Dan Abnett, illustrated by Nil Vendrell, colored by Mattia Iacono, and lettered by Buddy Beaudoin, with cover art by Jeff Stokely.

The first issue of Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to drop on February 24, with an early preview included in Dungeons & Dragons #2 on January 6. Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Sun Volume 1 is scheduled for release in April 2027.

I never expected Baldur’s Gate 3’s infamous brothel scene to break my heart.
