The upcoming Paranormal Activity film returns to the franchise’s original style.
The eighth chapter of the Paranormal Activity saga is set to hit screens on May 21, 2027, marking two decades since the original film and six years since the last entry in the series. While plot specifics remain under wraps, it was revealed at New York Comic Con that the story will return to the iconic house of Katie and Micah from the first film.
Jason Blum shared during the Blumhouse panel that Paranormal Activity holds a special place in his heart, as it was the project that launched Blumhouse into the spotlight. Although the production company initially stepped back from the franchise due to its overexposure, the idea of reviving it gained traction when James Wan from Atomic Monster proposed a collaboration, and Blum was quick to agree.
Reports indicate that the new Paranormal Activity will take place in the same house featured in the original film. While it seems unlikely that Micah and Katie will appear, given the time that has passed since the first movie, their spirits could still linger, considering their tragic fate in that very location. Original director Oren Peli is on board as a producer for Paranormal Activity 8, alongside James Wan and Jason Blum, with Ian Tuason from Undertone stepping in as director.
The New York Comic Con panel also unveiled more thrilling horror news from Blumhouse. Blum mentioned that the upcoming Saw film, directed by Mike P. Nelson, will have a fresh feel, thanks to the involvement of original creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell, bringing it closer to the essence of the 2004 classic.
Additionally, Blumhouse is collaborating with director Craig Zobel on a film adaptation of the horror comic Something Is Killing the Children, and with Mike Flanagan on The Exorcist: Martyrs, which is set to release on March 12, 2027. The panel also announced that LaKeith Stanfield will star in a new project titled Molepeople, Kristen Bell will reprise her role as Ms. Klaus in Violent Night 2, and MatPat is working on a film adaptation of Amanda the Adventurer with Blumhouse.
Lastly, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster shared their upcoming release schedule. Notably absent was Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, indicating its release date remains uncertain or may extend beyond 2027. Director Curry Barker’s next film, Anything But Ghosts, is scheduled for May 7, 2027, while a new Blair Witch Project installment is set to arrive on September 24, 2027.
