GTA 6 Insider Issues Ultimatum to Rockstar Over Meme Coin Value Reaching $30 Million
After a month of silence following the extensive gameplay reveal of Grand Theft Auto 6 on Netflix, Cyberleek has made a comeback with a new batch of footage, including an unexpected glimpse of Jason in the buff. The leaker is now threatening to release the entire game build they claim to possess if enough people invest in Cyberleek’s meme coin to push its market cap beyond $30 million. According to Cyberleek, the only way for Rockstar to avert this situation is to produce a physical disc version of the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
“Here’s the deal, nice and clean,” states a recent notice on Cyberleek’s website. “If CYBERLEEK hits a $30 million market cap, the full build goes out—complete story mode, played to the end, credits and all. Doubt it has a full story mode? Just ask for what you want to see, and it will be provided. Take-Two has one way out: physical disks and a public apology. They can take it at any moment, or they can gamble that CL is bluffing. Everyone knows which option they’ll choose.”
There has been speculation for some time that Cyberleek might have access to a working build of GTA 6, given the distinctiveness of the leaked videos. This week’s 25 minutes of additional gameplay footage seemed to support that theory. The footage included a debug mode showcasing Jason naked, following a debate about whether the character would appear unclothed in the upcoming open-world title. Cyberleek also recreated various gameplay snippets that echoed what was revealed in the Netflix showcase back in August.
Details about the individual behind the Cyberleek account remain unclear, including whether they are collaborating with others and how much of their actions are driven by a desire for profit and notoriety versus a genuine push against perceived anti-consumer practices in the gaming industry, as suggested in Cyberleek’s original manifesto.
The Cyberleek account went dark in late August after reportedly withdrawing $250,000 worth of its meme coin, which led to a significant drop in the crypto scheme’s value. This latest threat appears to be a second round of the rug pull, but with potentially far-reaching consequences for Rockstar.
In August, the studio and its parent company, Take-Two, subpoenaed Discord and Microsoft for a collection of user records related to the distribution of Cyberleek’s gameplay videos. There have been no updates on what Discord provided or the status of that investigation. Fans have also been trying to uncover the identity of the leaker, but those efforts seemed to wane as the leaks subsided.
With just over a month until the release of GTA 6, this could either be a final attempt to capitalize on the hype or the most significant gaming leak in history.
