WandaVision Creator to Launch New Stargate Series
After a previous attempt fell short, Amazon MGM Studios is reviving the development of a new Stargate series. Reports indicate that Jac Schaeffer, known for her work on the hit show WandaVision, is stepping in as the showrunner.
Amazon has been eager to bring a Stargate TV series to life for some time. Martin Gero, who created Blindspot, had previously worked on various Stargate projects early in his career, making him a fitting choice for a new series in 2025. However, the project was ultimately scrapped during its early stages.
Sources suggest that Amazon had reservations about Gero’s vision for the series, fearing it might not resonate with a wide audience. Despite these challenges, the company remained determined to find a suitable writer, and it appears they may have found the right fit in Schaeffer.
Earlier this year, Amazon secured a three-year deal with Schaeffer, and they are now leveraging that partnership for the Stargate project. Schaeffer is best known for her acclaimed work on WandaVision and Agatha All Along, both of which achieved significant success on Disney Plus. Amazon is clearly hoping she can bring that same magic to the Stargate franchise.
Details about the new series are scarce, and it’s unclear how Schaeffer’s approach will differ from Gero’s. However, fans can expect her unique touch as she aims to create a show that resonates with contemporary audiences.
Taking on this project is no small feat, as Stargate holds a special place in the hearts of long-time sci-fi enthusiasts. Additionally, it has the potential to attract a younger demographic that may not be as familiar with it compared to other iconic franchises like Star Wars and Star Trek. As of now, there is no set release date for the new Stargate series.
