Stardew Valley’s Monster-Inspired Spin-Off Gets a New Launch Date
Indie developer Perfect Garbage has rescheduled the release of its horror-themed farm-sim, Grave Seasons, from its initial August date to March 9, 2027. The announcement came during the Cozy After Dark showcase, where the studio also provided a glimpse into the autumn aesthetic and gameplay progression.
Grave Seasons focuses on storytelling rather than traditional objectives. Players take on the role of a recently released convict who moves to a small village plagued by a supernatural serial killer. Your mission to confront this menace unfolds over the course of a single in-game year. Once the year concludes, the story for that particular killer wraps up, but players can return for more chilling adventures, with all farming and decoration progress retained.
Narrative director Emmett Nahil showcased a stunning array of gothic farmhouse furniture, featuring plush red cushions, deep purple wallpaper, and heavy lampshades that create a captivating atmosphere. The exterior of the farmhouse is equally striking, adorned with wine-red paint and dark wooden accents, complemented by trailing plants for added charm. Customization options extend to all buildings, including a bright chicken coop decorated with vines and twinkling lights.
With each story segment spanning just one in-game year, Nahil emphasized the importance of making each season feel unique. The autumn visuals reflect this effort, showcasing trees in vibrant earthy hues, mushrooms sprouting in the woods, and fields brimming with seasonal produce. Interestingly, players might also encounter rogue eyeballs while farming, hinting at the village’s eerie undertones. At least the radishes look delicious!
During the fall, players can gather a variety of deadly herbs—presumably for noble purposes—and participate in the Nocturne Faire, a festival celebrating the end of the year. This event features stalls selling mulled wine and cider, along with a kiosk offering unsettling straw dolls.
Nahil and co-founder Son M have previously expressed their goal of pushing the boundaries of cozy gaming, challenging conventions and making the darker aspects of life feel less daunting.
When Grave Seasons launches on March 9, it will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
