Satya Nadella: All AI Models Should Be Considered ‘Compromised’

In a detailed post on X, the CEO of Microsoft shared his insights on the potential risks associated with highly advanced AI models and how to address these challenges. He emphasized that we can no longer view AI as merely a “set of nested black boxes” where we passively accept or reject its recommendations. Instead, he advocates for the creation of a more transparent system that allows for the containment and monitoring of models, while also providing “tamper-proof human readable evidence.”

Many of his suggestions echo sentiments expressed by others in the tech community, including the need for prompt incident reporting, independent audits, verifiable data, and effective containment strategies. However, he takes a more assertive stance on containment, stating:

> We must assume a model is compromised and contain it from the start. Think of it like an emergency brake. An authorized person should always be able to pause or shut down a model mid-task. More advanced models will require more advanced containment technologies that we need to standardize on.

Unfortunately, he also refers to AI as “super intelligence” throughout the post.
