DLSS 5 to Launch with Adjustments for Hogwarts Legacy Next Month

When Nvidia first unveiled DLSS 5 earlier this year, it quickly garnered the label of generative AI for gaming, leaving many gamers scratching their heads. The transformation of character faces was particularly striking; a 15-year-old from Hogwarts Legacy suddenly appeared much older, while Grace from Resident Evil Requiem looked dramatically altered.

Fast forward six months, and DLSS 5 is set to make its official debut in Hogwarts Legacy, but it seems the technology has been dialed back significantly. Nvidia released new comparison screenshots today, showcasing more subtle changes to character faces, similar to what we see in NBA 2K27. Teenagers no longer resemble middle-aged adults, and even the environmental enhancements are less pronounced.

Nvidia has consistently emphasized that developers retain “detailed artistic control” over DLSS 5, allowing them to decide how to integrate the technology into their games. DLSS 5 will launch in Hogwarts Legacy on November 5th, with plans to roll it out in Where Winds Meet later next month.

Additionally, Nvidia is enhancing the performance of DLSS 5 with an October update to the neural rendering system, promising to double the speed on RTX 50-series GPUs and the upcoming RTX Spark laptops. According to Nvidia’s Andrew Burnes, “The DLSS 5 October update shrinks the footprint by 24 percent to roughly 118 million parameters while reducing 4K VRAM usage by 20 percent.” This updated DLSS 5 model will first appear in NBA 2K27 on October 16th and will be included by default in future DLSS 5 titles.

In conjunction with the DLSS 5 updates, Nvidia has also rolled out a new beta update for its app, featuring a faster performance mode for Frame Generation on RTX 40- and 50-series GPUs. This updated AI model employs a “faster and lighter algorithm to boost frame rates” for Frame Gen, Multi Frame Gen, and Dynamic Multi Frame Gen. Nvidia claims this mode has “minor trade-offs in image quality,” but it should now deliver frame rates that are up to 35 percent faster.
