GTA 6 Fans Believe Rockstar May Have Subtly Revealed the Game’s Ending
We can make some educated guesses about the direction of Grand Theft Auto 6’s story, but the real details will remain under wraps until after November 19. Or at least, that’s what we’d expect. However, some keen-eyed fans have spotted a significant spoiler that’s been hiding in plain sight — and it’s not from a leak.
With just a month to go before launch, Rockstar has ramped up the marketing for GTA 6. Each week seems to bring fresh previews from influencers, magazines, and major news sources. Rockstar has also updated its website with new information, including details about the game’s radio stations and a few new screenshots. Despite the buzz, the media hasn’t received much attention from Rockstar, even as the images leave fans in awe.
One of these images, which features protagonists Jason and Lucia about to kiss, has flown under the radar. At first glance, it seems innocent enough, but a closer look reveals that they are surrounded by a helicopter and several police boats, with officers aiming their weapons directly at them.
Given that GTA 6 revolves around crime, a tense situation like this isn’t unexpected. Many official screenshots show Jason and Lucia narrowly escaping law enforcement. While some may be stylized shots that won’t appear in the final game, others likely capture key moments from the storyline, similar to the mission gone awry shown in a recent video.
Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 will feature a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired narrative. However, this particular screenshot feels less like the 1967 film where the police shoot at Bonnie and Clyde for an extended period and more reminiscent of the bittersweet ending of 2019’s Queen and Slim. Like the film’s protagonists, the outlaw couple finds themselves cornered. Instead of fleeing, they turn to face their fate, hand in hand. Despite being unarmed and seemingly ready to surrender after a tender moment, they are brutally shot down.
It’s possible that Rockstar simply posed the characters in an embrace. However, animating two characters touching in a game is notoriously tricky. This is why the gaming community made such a fuss over Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us 2 trailer, where the protagonists share a kiss. We know players can hold hands in GTA 6, and it’s likely the lovers will share intimate moments during the game’s rumored sex scenes. Still, this kind of animation would likely be reserved for cutscenes.
Could the police boat screenshot hint at one of the game’s potential endings? It certainly carries a dramatic weight that fits a climactic moment. Fans theorizing about this being the ending might recall how Rockstar pulled a similar trick back in 2013. Months before Grand Theft Auto 5 launched, the developers released a series of artworks showing the protagonists around an open car trunk. Later, fans realized this artwork depicted the ending’s option C, Deathwish, where the characters kidnap the antagonist and execute him.
On its own, the GTA 5 image is innocuous: it doesn’t reveal its meaning unless you’ve completed the game. It also reinforces the idea that Rockstar could easily tease the game’s ending without fans catching on. At least it seems there will be multiple endings — and given the tragic fate of Bonnie and Clyde, a somber conclusion wouldn’t be surprising.
