Danny Trejo’s Son Alleges Actor Was Misled Into Participating in Ben Shapiro’s Pro-ICE Film
Danny Trejo, known for his roles in over 200 films where he often portrays tough characters, has recently faced backlash for his participation in the upcoming film Pawn Shop, produced by a media company associated with a well-known conservative figure. The film has been criticized as pro-ICE propaganda, which has raised eyebrows given Trejo’s Mexican heritage and his outspoken support for the Democratic Party. In response to the criticism, Trejo took to Instagram to clarify his stance, emphasizing that he is a proud Mexican and a pro-immigrant advocate, distancing himself from any pro-ICE sentiments.
According to Trejo’s son, Gilbert, the actor was misled about the nature of the project before signing on. Gilbert shared on his private Instagram story that Trejo was informed by his agent that Pawn Shop was a complex narrative where the hardworking Mexican shop owner, played by Trejo, was the only sympathetic character. It wasn’t until they were well into filming that Trejo learned of the conservative pundit’s involvement and had never encountered his controversial views before. Due to contractual obligations, Trejo is reportedly unable to publicly criticize the film or withdraw from it without facing legal repercussions.
Gilbert expressed frustration over the situation, stating that his father is trapped in a project that has led many to turn against him without understanding the full context. He lamented that the pundit has managed to tarnish Trejo’s reputation and manipulate public perception, leaving the community feeling misrepresented.
In addition to his extensive film and television career, Trejo has also lent his voice to several video games, including Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and even appears as himself in titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops and Far Cry 6.
