Did Cody Rhodes Just Hint at His Role in the X-Men Reboot?
We already know a few actors who will be stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it gears up for a full reboot of the X-Men in 2028. Sadie Sink has made her debut as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the new film will also feature Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Adam Driver is set to portray the villain Mr. Sinister, but there are still many X-Men characters yet to be revealed.
Now, enter Cody Rhodes, a WWE wrestler turned actor who is taking on the role of Guile in the new Street Fighter movie releasing tonight. As part of the promotional tour for the film, Rhodes and his co-stars have been making the rounds, and during a recent interview, he may have inadvertently dropped a hint about being involved in the X-Men movie.
At the 1:29 mark of the interview, Rhodes discusses his various nerdy interests and seemingly says, “I’m in X-Men.” His co-star, Andrew Schulz, known for his outspoken views, immediately reacts with surprise, asking, “Wait, you are?” As Rhodes continues as if nothing unusual has happened, Schulz comments that he thought Rhodes had just “made an announcement.” If Rhodes caught himself, he certainly kept his composure, smoothly continuing the conversation.
While this clip alone doesn’t confirm anything, it’s not the first time Schulz has hinted at Rhodes having a secret connection to the X-Men. During an appearance on Schulz’s podcast, he joked about Rogue, the power-stealing mutant, and then turned to Rhodes, asking, “What franchise is Rogue in?” Rhodes dodged the question and attempted to steer the conversation back to the cigars they were enjoying, creating an awkward moment that leaves fans wondering if there’s more to the story.
Now, speculation is swirling about which character Rhodes might portray in the film. The X-Men universe is filled with muscular mutants, so could he be taking on the role of Colossus, Cable, Havok, Iceman, or perhaps a less obvious character? If he has indeed secured a role, an official announcement could be on the horizon.
For the moment, the MCU is primarily focused on December’s Avengers: Doomsday, although Vision Quest premiered this week on Disney+ and has been well-received so far.
