Filming for The Batman Part 2 to Continue Under New Direction

Steven Soderbergh is stepping in to wrap up filming for The Batman Part 2 while director Matt Reeves attends to a family matter.

Reports indicate that the Oscar-winning director will assist in completing the final weeks of principal photography for the DC sequel. Reeves will stay in touch with Soderbergh throughout this period, collaborating closely to ensure the new footage aligns with his original vision. Once he’s ready to return, Reeves is expected to take over the post-production phase.

Soderbergh, celebrated for his work on films like Ocean’s Eleven and Traffic, offered his help after praising Reeves’ direction in 2022’s The Batman.

“I thought Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent,” Soderbergh stated. “The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”

Production was taking place in London before it was temporarily halted earlier this month to allow Reeves to focus on his family. DC Studios confirmed the pause and expressed support for the director.

It remains uncertain if this delay will impact the film’s release date. The Batman Part 2 is currently set to premiere in theaters on February 18, 2028, nearly six years after its predecessor hit screens in March 2022.

Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, joined by Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. New cast members include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham, and Sebastian Koch.

While plot details are mostly under wraps, Reeves has referred to his interconnected Batman films and The Penguin spinoff series as the “Batman Epic Crime Saga.”
