Experienced Players Defeat New RuneScape Content in Just Two Weeks

Jagex, the team behind RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds, has decided to cancel the RuneScape Reignited project. In a video addressing the cancellation, Mod Ryan stated, “It is clear that we missed the mark on this, and so we are not moving forward with it.”

RuneScape Reignited was unveiled earlier this month during Runefest 2026, a community gathering celebrating all things RuneScape. The initiative aimed to revitalize the 25-year-old MMO, allowing players to essentially restart their journey with a brand-new economy, reset world-first achievements, and custom worlds designed specifically for Reignited accounts. Players in the Reignited realm would share the same world as seasoned players, able to chat, form guilds, and enjoy player housing together, but they would not be able to trade or team up for boss battles.

While the announcement generated excitement among some returning players and current veterans feeling burnt out, others expressed concerns. Many believed that Reignited would prioritize new players at the expense of long-time fans, arguing that addressing ongoing issues in the game would be a more effective strategy for attracting and retaining players than simply starting fresh. With this cancellation, it appears Jagex has taken that feedback seriously. Mod Ryan remarked, “We received a ton of different perspectives from all of you, and we truly appreciate everyone sharing their views. Our goal is to see RuneScape grow again, with returning players coming back and new players joining, but never at the expense of our existing community.”
