GeoGuessr Takes a Bold Turn with Exciting New Gameplay Update
GeoGuessr, the browser-based deduction game, has been a staple for quite some time, with many players enjoying watching Trevor Rainbolt pinpoint locations in mere seconds. However, the creators of GeoGuessr have just introduced an exciting reason to dive back into this classic internet game.
This October, GeoGuessr is transforming into a roguelike survival-horror experience called HorrorGuessr, and the genre shift is surprisingly effective. The fundamental gameplay remains intact: analyze a Google Street View screenshot and determine its location. The twist? A monster is on your tail, giving you a limited window to make your guess.
To aid your survival, HorrorGuessr introduces power-ups and a selection of 100 unique items. A merchant offers clever boosts, such as a Garlic Pendant that provides some monster-repelling power and candy corn earplugs that shield you from unexpected jump scares.
If you manage to last long enough, you’ll encounter various bosses guarding valuable loot. “Some might flip your entire world upside down, some might freeze you in place,” the game promises.
This iteration is designed to be challenging. While specialized load-outs can extend your survival, you’re limited in the number of items you can equip. Crucially, you still need to demonstrate your skills in the original game by identifying a location within about 30 seconds at the start. Luckily, there are items available that can offer some forgiveness for incorrect answers.
As a roguelike, death is an integral part of the experience. Each new run provides you with additional knowledge, allowing you to explore the myriad ways your adventure can unfold.
And the best part? It’s free to play.
