Apple TV 4K Sees Its First Minor Price Drop

This week, Apple unveiled its latest Apple TV 4K, which comes with a price tag nearly double that of the 2022 version at launch. Amazon has jumped in with the first discount on this upcoming streaming device, set to release on November 13th, shortly after offering a discount on Apple’s new smart display. You can currently preorder the new Apple TV 4K for $289.99, which is a $9 discount. While it’s a modest reduction, every bit counts given the higher price.

The new model is powered by the A19 chip and includes built-in support for Siri AI, which will also be available on older Apple TV 4K models through a software update. Unlike previous versions, this one features far-field microphones, allowing for hands-free requests. You can ask for recommendations, like nature documentaries available on Apple TV, or inquire about what you’re currently watching. Siri AI can also grasp personal context if you have an iPhone or iPad linked to your account that supports Apple Intelligence.

Apple has made some other notable enhancements, though, as noted by a colleague. While some expected more features for a $300 streaming device—like audio passthrough and 120fps output—it’s great to see that the Siri Remote now includes Find My precision tracking. This means you can make it ring when it’s lost or use the Find My app on your iPhone to locate it. Additionally, the new Apple TV 4K supports a broader surround-sound setup, allowing you to connect up to four compatible HomePod speakers instead of just two.
