Fans Critique Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer, Claiming It Looks Blurry Compared to the Original

Rockstar Games dropped a new minute-and-a-half trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, and it’s packed with everything you’d expect—military backstory, a steamy shower scene, Jason tossing a guy off a boat, the iconic voice saying “Grand Theft Auto,” and, most notably, a rather blurry camera effect.

Wait a second—wasn’t the internet just joking about the trailer’s blurry look? Apparently not; some fans are genuinely worried about the smudged lens aesthetic in the latest GTA 6 trailer, with accusations flying that Rockstar might be “downgrading” the graphics ahead of launch.

Is it an upgrade or a downgrade??

Clearly, what we’re seeing is an image-processing effect. Those in the know recognize this as a Gaussian blur, which, not to brag, I totally knew off the top of my head. My film degree is really paying off!

Look, I’m pretty sure Rockstar knows better than to mislead fans with fake trailers for what could be the most anticipated game ever. So, no need to cancel those digital preorders just yet.

Plus, as many have pointed out online, this is likely just a setting players can toggle on and off. Red Dead Redemption II had a bunch of similar filters, so don’t stress; the marketing team just wanted to get a bit artsy this time. Just be glad they didn’t go full Yorgos Lanthimos and slap a fisheye lens filter on it instead (did I mention my film degree?).
