Woman Arrested in Philadelphia for Obstructing Delivery Robot

Carolyn Marvin found herself in hot water after she obstructed an Uber delivery robot, leading to her arrest for disorderly conduct. In an interview, she expressed her stance, stating, “I know they’re taking the jobs of human delivery workers, so I have been protesting them whenever I see them by standing in front of them and preventing them from going forward.”

When police arrived and asked her to step aside, she refused, resulting in her being handcuffed and taken into custody. The entire incident was recorded and has since attracted significant attention.

Delivery robots have become a familiar sight in downtown Philadelphia, but they’ve also faced backlash. This isn’t Marvin’s first encounter with these robots; earlier this year, one was even toppled in Center City. There’s a growing concern about the effects of autonomous systems, such as robotaxis and delivery bots, on employment, particularly for lower-skilled workers.
