Director of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Unveils Major Updates for Hard Mode

Skilled gamers who thrive on challenges often ramp up the difficulty when diving into a new title. However, in the case of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, players had to complete the game first to access a higher difficulty mode. Fortunately, this will change with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, as confirmed by series director Naoki Hamaguchi.

Hamaguchi has dedicated nearly a decade to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, elevating the beloved classic and earning the admiration of fans, some of whom have even suggested he take the helm for Final Fantasy 17. He will continue to refine the remake series leading up to the release of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation on April 8, 2027. This installment will revamp Hard Mode, introducing significant improvements, including the ability to activate it right from the start.

The groundwork laid by FF7 Remake and Rebirth has set the stage for Revelation, allowing the series to evolve and enhance its final chapter. This is evident in the upgraded map, but there’s more to look forward to. In Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, Hard Mode will be less restrictive, with no item bans, enabling players to craft any build they desire. While strategy remains crucial, players will also enjoy greater creative freedom. Most importantly, Hard Mode will be accessible from the beginning, so fans won’t have to complete a playthrough to unlock it.

Hamaguchi explained that this decision was made because finishing Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will unlock a wealth of post-game content. If Hard Mode were available only after completion, players might feel torn between starting a new playthrough at their preferred difficulty or rushing through the post-game content.

Additionally, Hamaguchi shared that players seeking a balanced experience will be pleased to know that Dynamic Mode is returning in Revelation. This difficulty setting adjusts enemy levels to match the party’s current strength, allowing players to explore the world and engage in side quests without the risk of becoming overpowered and trivializing certain battles.

As with previous titles in the series, players will likely have the option to change difficulty in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, though it will require restarting the current chapter.

Say goodbye to the RPG grind.
