Top Base Locations to Explore in Enshrouded 1.0
When it comes to choosing base locations in Enshrouded, Embervale offers a wealth of options, but I personally lean towards picturesque waterfront properties rather than purely strategic spots. With numerous fast travel points scattered throughout the world, my aesthetic choices don’t hinder my gameplay too much, although I do appreciate having mines or elevated areas nearby for a good glider launch.
After spending countless hours exploring and marking my favorite spots across Embervale, I thought it would be great to share some of the best base locations I’ve discovered in Enshrouded 1.0.
????️ **Pre-built town for renovating** Fort Kelvin is located on the northern edge of the Springlands, close to Revelwood and just west of the Pillars of Creation. This expansive abandoned town features a central square, underground tunnels, and even a pre-built tower. Revamping the entire area is a significant task, but it’s a charming fixer-upper for those willing to invest the effort.
???? **Empty lot for building** Just west of Fort Kelvin lies a serene pond that has become one of my go-to building spots in every world. I’m particularly fond of the island in the center, where I often enhance the pier and expand it. Just watch out for enemy patrols that occasionally wander by; they’ve caught me off guard a couple of times.
???? **Empty lot for building** Here’s another waterside location for your next construction project. While it’s a bit too close to the Shroud for comfort, its charm is hard to resist. The uneven terrain might deter some players, but I recommend embracing the challenge and building around it instead of leveling it out.
???? **Empty lot for building** If you’re up for a deforestation project, there’s more flat land here than it appears. Located near the Hollowed Halls, it also provides easy access to a flint mine just to the north.
???? **Empty lot for building** I’m not usually a fan of building in Revelwood due to its dense foliage, but I can’t resist this secluded waterfall next to Glenwood’s End. It’s a classic RPG waterfall, complete with a hidden alcove that adds to its allure.
???? **Pre-built tavern for renovating** If a full town renovation feels overwhelming, consider this single building that’s much easier to take on. I love this old tavern’s hilltop position, which gets more sunlight than most areas in Revelwood, and it’s conveniently close to plenty of ore and clay.
???? **Empty lot for building** Even if I’m not constructing anything here, I always place a Flame Altar on one of the two pillars for quick fast travel around southern Embervale. The northern pillar is easier for building, but the southern one has nearby copper mines that make it a tempting option.
???? **Empty lot for building** This charming mountainside nook is nestled between two large areas of Shroud. While it may not be rich in resources, there’s a limestone deposit nearby, accessible via a handy hookshot shortcut.
????️ **Pre-built town for renovating** While most towns in the Kindlewastes feel a bit too sprawling for my taste, Shorewatch is a manageable size. The southern Kindlewastes lack fast travel points, making this a practical place to settle. It even features a pre-built tower that you can extend for better glider jumps.
???? **Pre-built cottage for renovating** Far to the east in the Albaneve Summits, on a quiet mountainside, lies one of Enshrouded’s most poignant journals. I won’t spoil the details, but since I can’t bring myself to disturb the actual ‘Hermit Lodgings’ landmark, I settle a bit northwest in this charming lakeside cabin instead. I like to think it belonged to the journal’s characters during happier times, though I’m sure they wouldn’t approve of my renovations.
????️ **Pre-built town for renovating** Against my better judgment, I’m including the sprawling town of Riverreach. Located in the northernmost corner of Dragondream Lake, it spans the area’s largest waterfall. The town features three main levels, not counting the floors of each house, and renovating it is a monumental task. While it may be more space than most players need, the appeal of its massive, functioning waterwheels and intricate underground cells is hard to resist.
????️ **Pre-built town for renovating** If Riverreach’s dark wood and stone don’t suit your style, Driftwood Wake is located across the lake to the southeast. It’s closer to the water, making it ideal for fishing, and features its own waterfall against the western mountainside. Smaller and likely more practical than Riverreach, it still earns a spot on my list, though my heart remains with its northern neighbor.
