Major Update for Cyberpunk 2077 Arrives This Week
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has landed on Netflix, serving as a standalone sequel to the original Edgerunners anime from 2022, both of which tie into CD Projekt Red’s RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. To mark the debut of the new anime, CD Projekt Red is rolling out a fresh update for Cyberpunk 2077 this week.
Dubbed the Edgerunners 2 Update or Update 2.5, this patch promises “content inspired by the anime,” along with “a range of other new items and features,” as stated in their announcement.
Details are still under wraps, but a livestream is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m. EDT, where the team will delve into the specifics of the update. You can catch the stream on platforms like Twitch, YouTube, and Steam, or you can dive into the update without any prior knowledge—it’s your call.
The Edgerunners 2 Update is set to launch on October 22 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version following soon after.
Both Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners are set in the chaotic, neon-lit Night City, where gang warfare and body modifications are the norm. Season 1 chronicled the rise and fall of David Martinez, who was ultimately undone by his cybernetic enhancements. Season 2 introduces a new ensemble navigating the turmoil of Night City. “With the intertwining stories of a veteran edgerunner, a young cinephile, a chrome-obsessed delinquent, and a Snake Nation netrunner, the series tells a raw and emotional tale of vengeance and redemption,” the announcement highlights.
Ryan Epps from an outlet had the chance to preview the first episode at Anime Expo over the summer and found it impressive. “Packed with incredible colors, gorgeous framing, and punchy sound design, Edgerunners 2 is a fresh take on a beloved world,” he noted.
Director Kai Ikarashi elaborates on the show’s unique redesign.
