AMD Introduces FSR 4.1 for Xbox Consoles and Handheld Devices
AMD has announced that its latest upscaling technology, FSR 4.1, is set to launch on Xbox Series S and X consoles, as well as on laptops, 6000-series GPUs, and handheld devices like the Xbox Ally X. Starting today, FSR 4.1 will be available for Radeon RX 6000-series GPUs, along with Ryzen AI Max 300 and 400 series devices, and Ryzen AI 9 300 and 400 series devices.
Originally introduced for Radeon RX 9000-series graphics cards in March, AMD promised to extend FSR 4.1 to older GPUs and handhelds this year. This technology aims to enhance performance in over 300 supported games, including titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 6, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
The rollout of FSR 4.1 comes shortly after a collaboration between Sony and AMD to implement Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) on the base PS5, stemming from their Project Amethyst initiative. Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s computer and graphics group, stated, “We want to bring that work to more gamers. We didn’t just bring it over; we made it better. We went back into the model, we tuned it and optimized the code path.”
While users with Radeon RX 6000-series GPUs and Gorgon Halo- or Strix Halo-powered devices can access FSR 4.1 today through the latest Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 drivers, Xbox console players will need to be patient. Xbox CTO Scott Van Vilet mentioned, “We’ve worked very closely with AMD to optimize this technology, giving developers another powerful tool for great performance and visual quality for players. Our teams are continuing to work together across hardware and software, and there’s even more ahead with Project Helix, leveraging FSR Diamond to power what comes next.”
FSR 4.1 is expected to significantly enhance gaming experiences on Xbox consoles, especially for the less powerful Xbox Series S. However, neither Microsoft nor AMD has provided a specific release date for FSR 4.1 on Xbox consoles, only indicating that it is “coming soon.”
