Karmine Corp Survive the Worlds 2026 Play-In and Book Their Swiss Stage Spot

Karmine Corp have secured the 16th and final place in the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage after sweeping MVK Esports 3-0 in the Play-In grand final at Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles on October 18, which was the early hours of October 19 in India. The European side went through the four-team Play-In without losing a series, and now join 15 directly qualified teams for the main event in Texas.

A Play-In Where Only One Team Survives

The 2026 Play-In was built differently from earlier editions. Four teams, Karmine Corp, Cloud9 KIA, MVK Esports and FURIA, competed from October 15 to 18 in a double-elimination bracket with every series played as a best-of-five. Only the winner advanced to the Swiss Stage, and there were no Korean or Chinese teams in the field because all four representatives from the LCK and LPL qualified directly.

The opening day produced drama and an upset. Karmine Corp recovered from a 1-2 deficit to beat Cloud9 KIA 3-2 in a five-game thriller, while MVK Esports, the LCP’s third seed and a Worlds debutant, swept FURIA 3-0. On October 16, Karmine Corp took control of the upper bracket by beating MVK 3-0 and moving one win from the Swiss Stage.

MVK then had to win through the lower bracket. On October 17 they defeated FURIA 3-1 in the lower final, which eliminated the Brazilian side in 18th place with $40,000 in prize money. Cloud9 KIA had already been knocked out, which set up a rematch between Karmine Corp and MVK for the only remaining ticket.

Karmine Corp Complete the Sweep

The grand final was a repeat of the upper final, and the outcome was the same. Karmine Corp took Game 1 with a dominant macro performance, built an early lead in Game 2 and closed out the series in Game 3 with a commanding 25-12 kill advantage. MVK tried to disrupt Karmine Corp with unconventional picks and aggressive early plays, including a Twitch pick and a level-one invade, but the European side stayed disciplined and punished mistakes.

Karmine Corp had finished the LEC Summer season on a bumpy note and missed direct qualification, so the Play-In run was a recovery story. The team claimed Europe’s third Worlds seed through the LEC Summer playoffs, and the Play-In sweep proved the squad could handle the pressure of best-of-five series.

The Swiss Stage begins on October 23 in Allen, Texas, at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center, which is October 24 in India and across Asia. The Play-In winner is placed in Pool 4, so Karmine Corp will meet one of the top seeds, Gen.G, Anyone’s Legend, Team Liquid or G2 Esports, in their opening match. Round one is played as best-of-one, and teams reaching three wins advance to the knockout stage, while three losses mean elimination. From round two, matches become best-of-three when a team is one win from qualifying or one loss from elimination.

The knockouts begin in November, and the final takes place on November 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The tournament carries a $5 million prize pool, with $1 million for the champion. T1 arrive as the three-time defending champions, Gen.G won the LCK final 3-1 over Hanwha Life Esports, and Hanwha Life arrive as the MSI 2026 winners. For Karmine Corp, simply reaching the Swiss Stage is a significant achievement, and every match from here is a chance to make a statement against the world’s best.
