Gemini AI from Google is set to bring personalized features to your vehicle.
Google is enhancing the Gemini AI experience in your vehicle with the introduction of Personal Intelligence. This update allows Gemini, available in Android Auto and vehicles equipped with Google built-in, to access your information from various Google apps like Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube, and Search.
For instance, if you’re heading to the airport, you can simply ask Gemini about your flight status. The AI can retrieve your flight details from a confirmation email in Gmail and check the current status for you. You can also say, “take me to my doctor’s appointment,” and Gemini will handle the directions for you, or request it to “find the car wash from the photo I took last week and navigate there.”
Google introduced the Gemini assistant to Android Auto last year and expanded it to cars with Google built-in in April. Many manufacturers, including Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Volvo, and Polestar, have released newer models featuring Google built-in, which supports native Android apps.
To utilize Gemini’s Personal Intelligence, you need to enable the setting. Personalized responses will only be available when your phone is connected to your car. Google clarifies that even without Personal Intelligence, you can still use navigation, listen to music, make calls, and ask questions, but the responses won’t be customized to your preferences.
The rollout of Personal Intelligence for Android Auto begins today, with support for cars featuring Google built-in expected in the coming months.
