A major co-op mod is on the way for Cyberpunk 2077.
Night City is buzzing with excitement this week. Cyberpunk 2077 is set to roll out a significant 2.5 update on October 22, right alongside the launch of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 anime. The developers have revealed a host of new features in this update, including fresh quests, a perk for dual wielding, and support for console mods. However, the game is also about to receive an even more thrilling enhancement through unofficial means: multiplayer co-op support via the NightCoop mod.
NightCoop is a fan-created mod that allows up to eight players to explore Night City together. A newly released trailer showcases the mod’s features, addressing some tricky scenarios that likely posed challenges for its developers. NightCoop ensures that the world of Cyberpunk 2077 is synchronized, allowing combat and stealth to function smoothly for all players. This synchronization even extends to moments when a player activates their Sandevistan, letting others see them move with an afterimage, reminiscent of the anime.
When it comes to choices and dialogue, players will vote on decisions, with the majority choice determining the outcome for everyone. The trailer highlights a thrilling heist scenario, where one player manages cameras and drones while the other leads a direct assault. After a series of closed tests, the mod will enter open beta on October 23 at 11 a.m. EDT.
According to the NightCoop website, the mod will also feature PvP options, which can be enabled or disabled by the host. Player-versus-player encounters will consider the stats and gear of both participants, balancing damage for players of varying levels. To get started with the mod, players need to install NightCoop along with the RED4ext library. The host can then load an existing save or create a new co-op game, allowing guests to join as their own character, V.
The developers have consistently supported fan-modding initiatives, even going so far as to include mod support in the console versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and now Cyberpunk 2077. The RED4ext modding library has amassed an impressive 12.6 million downloads on Nexus Mods, highlighting the popularity of community-created content.
