Fallout 4 Returns a Decade After Its Launch
Bethesda has just given players some compelling reasons to dive back into Fallout 4, even if you’ve already logged countless hours in the post-apocalyptic RPG and its expansions. A new trio of must-try releases is pushing the series into exciting new realms.
These fresh experiences are crafted by modders in collaboration with Bethesda, making them feel more like official DLC than typical fan projects.
One standout addition is Command Override, a mini-campaign that highlights the robotics company RobCo. This adventure revolves around technology, allowing you to hack and control various mechs. As you explore the depths of RobCo headquarters, you’ll discover experimental gear like the Ghost Pilot Suit, which grants the ability to see through walls. New weapons are also on the table, including a Beam Gun that can overheat for extra damage—just be wary of the radiation that comes with that extra firepower.
With the ability to pilot robots directly, you’ll gain access to their weaponry as well. Command Override promises players can “access everything from the Sentry Bot’s missile pod to the Assaultron’s eye laser during combat.” An action-packed trailer showcases the excitement, alongside a live-action advertisement that highlights the ambition behind these new projects.
Next up is Fallout 4: FEVer Dreams, which brings back Courtenay Taylor and Brian T. Delaney, the original voices of Fallout 4’s protagonists. You start this adventure trapped, weaponless, and seemingly infected by an active strain of the Forced Evolutionary Virus. While there are shooting elements, FEVer Dreams shifts gears with an escape room-style dungeon filled with puzzles. This lore-rich experience aims to delve into Fallout’s infamous bioweapon, featuring familiar faces equipped with new gear and weapons.
The official trailer presents FEVer Dreams as a surreal journey that plays with perception, perfect for a scenario where you’re stuck in a facility teeming with Deathclaws and mini-nukes. You’ll choose one of the two protagonists, while the other will communicate with you throughout the game. New characters will also introduce significant choices; at one point, a ghoul tells the player that only one of them can use the last dose of what appears to be a cure for FEV, asking, “How do you think we should handle this?”
Lastly, there’s an upcoming experience titled Fallout 4: Fathomless, set to release in 2027. This cosmic horror adventure takes you into a mysterious deep-sea crater, where you’ll encounter new Eldritch horrors while exploring shipwrecks. Like FEVer Dreams, this expansion will feature voice acting, and you can catch a sneak peek in Bethesda’s official Fallout Day video.
These new mod creations might just be the perfect distraction while you await the next big Fallout projects from Bethesda or Obsidian Entertainment. And don’t forget, Bethesda is still hard at work on the next Elder Scrolls, not to mention the next major Fallout installment. All these new mods are available for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC users through Bethesda’s Creation platform.
Remasters of the long-awaited Fallout 3 and New Vegas are also on the horizon.
