Final Auditions Underway for New James Bond Recasting

The search for the next James Bond is nearing its conclusion. After more than five years since Daniel Craig’s final appearance in “No Time to Die,” a new 007 is set to emerge. Reports indicate that Amazon MGM Studios is in the last stages of its casting process, with final auditions scheduled for the upcoming week. These screen tests could kick off as early as Friday and continue for several days.

Sources have revealed that four actors have been invited to participate in these tests, with three of them being Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, and Josh O’Connor. A total of six candidates are reportedly on the shortlist to take over the iconic role.

Originally, these auditions were slated for earlier this month, but they were postponed due to scheduling issues. While the auditions are just around the corner, there’s no specific timeline for when Amazon will make its final decision, though many anticipate it will happen by the end of 2026, as hinted by producer Amy Pascal.

The hunt for the next Bond intensified earlier this year when Amazon MGM enlisted casting director Nina Gold, who won the inaugural Oscar for Best Casting for “Hamnet” and has an impressive resume that includes “Game of Thrones,” “Chernobyl,” “Conclave,” and several “Star Wars” films.

The three actors mentioned in the final screen tests have been popular choices among fans speculating about the next Bond. Josh O’Connor has gained significant attention recently for his portrayal of Prince Charles in Netflix’s “The Crown” and has starred in a series of notable films, including “Challengers,” “The Mastermind,” “Wake Up Dead Man,” and “Disclosure Day.”

Callum Turner is known for his role in the quirky rom-com “One Night Only,” often described as a mix of “The Purge” and romantic comedy, as well as for his performances in Spielberg’s World War II miniseries “Masters of the Air” and the “Fantastic Beasts” series.

Jack Lowden, the most seasoned spy among the candidates, plays River Cartwright in the espionage series “Slow Horses,” with co-star Gary Oldman advocating for him to be considered for the Bond role.

It has been over five years since “No Time to Die” marked the end of Daniel Craig’s era as Bond, which began with “Casino Royale” in 2006. Amazon’s acquisition of MGM for $8.5 billion in March 2022 included the Bond franchise.

Denis Villeneuve, known for directing “Dune” and “Blade Runner 2049,” will be at the helm of the next Bond film, with “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight penning the script.

Expect an announcement regarding the new Bond casting soon.
