Carrie Returns for Season 2 on Prime Video
After a successful streaming launch on Prime Video, the highly anticipated second season of the television series Carrie is officially confirmed by Amazon MGM Studios. Creators Mike Flanagan and Stephen King are set to return, promising to take the psychokinetic high-schooler into new and unexpected realms following the dramatic conclusion of the first season.
Season 2 has been part of Flanagan’s vision for a modern retelling of King’s original novel since the beginning.
Since its premiere in early October, Carrie has dominated Prime Video’s global TV series rankings, reaching the top spot in over 105 countries. In their announcement, Amazon MGM Studios hinted that “Carrie’s story doesn’t stop at Prom – it’s far from over, with much more to come from Mike Flanagan and Stephen King, including new revelations, significant character developments, and plenty of shocking twists.”
“For 50 years, audiences have been drawn to Carrie White’s story,” Flanagan stated. “From the start, we envisioned a narrative that extends well beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly thankful for Stephen’s trust and support as we explore what lies ahead.”
“I’m eager for audiences to discover what’s next for Carrie White,” added executive producer Stephen King. “Mike Flanagan and I are thrilled about the upcoming developments. It’s sure to be exciting.”
“Carrie is resonating with both long-time Stephen King fans and a new generation, including young adults and international viewers, particularly among female audiences,” noted Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios. “This reflects the lasting impact of the story and highlights the depth of Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of this iconic narrative. We’re excited about the direction he and Stephen plan to take.”
Carrie features Summer H. Howell in the lead role, with Samantha Sloyan portraying Carrie’s mother, Margaret White. The official synopsis describes Carrie as navigating the harsh realities of public high school after her father’s sudden death, dealing with a viral bullying scandal, the pressures of social media, and the emergence of her mysterious telekinetic abilities during her teenage years.
The cast also includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle. Thalia Dudek is expected to return for the second season.
Carrie has garnered positive feedback from both audiences and critics. In a favorable review, an entertainment editor remarked on Flanagan’s bold approach to the source material, noting how the series draws intriguing connections to King’s broader universe in ways that the original book and its film adaptation did not. The editor suggested that if King had written the story later, he might have included ties to other works, and Flanagan embraces this potential, leaving the outcome open to interpretation.
