Mass Effect 5 Trailer Surfaces After BioWare Closure

Yesterday, EA made the decision to close BioWare and put a stop to the development of the new Mass Effect game. However, a trailer that seems to represent this game surfaced on Reddit today.

The trailer showcases “in-engine footage” and utilizes “pre-production assets,” as noted at the start of the video. It centers around an ex-soldier engaged in a conversation with a mysterious Asari character who approaches him at a bar. There’s even a flashback to a battle that resembles the gameplay from the original trilogy, capturing that classic Mass Effect vibe with humans and alien species interacting, quick cuts to action scenes, and a cameo from a beloved character from the earlier games. The trailer concludes with the title: Mass Effect: Universe.

It appears to be the real thing; a well-known industry insider has confirmed that it is indeed a “real trailer of the Mass Effect game that BioWare was developing up until its closure yesterday,” and another source has stated that they have “verified” the trailer’s authenticity.

While this new game has been canceled, there are reports that Amazon is still moving forward with its Mass Effect TV show for Prime Video, suggesting that the franchise may still have more stories to tell.
