Amazon rebrands Kindle Unlimited as Kindle Plus and enhances audiobook offerings.
The trend of enhancing subscription services continues, with Amazon recently rebranding its Kindle Unlimited to Kindle Plus. This revamped service maintains its promise of unlimited access to a curated selection of ebooks, comics, and magazines from the Kindle library for $11.99 a month. A significant number of these titles will also feature companion audiobooks, allowing users to seamlessly switch between reading and listening from the exact spot they left off. Additionally, Kindle Plus will introduce “virtual voice” audiobooks narrated by AI, as reported.
“The subscription continues to offer the same great reading experience with access to millions of titles, now with the addition of thousands of audiobooks in the U.S. catalog at no extra cost,” an Amazon representative stated.
Kindle Plus will operate independently from Amazon Prime, and users can still borrow up to 20 titles simultaneously without any return deadlines. Furthermore, authors utilizing the Kindle Direct Publishing platform can now make their audiobooks accessible to Kindle Plus subscribers.
Virtual voice audiobooks will be automatically available as new titles join KDP Select, and authors can choose to have AI narrators for previously published works as well. For those who prefer human narration, audiobooks produced through Audible’s Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX) marketplace will also be included in Kindle Plus, initially for subscribers in the U.S., with plans to expand to other regions in the future.
