Consider picking up a refurbished Samsung phone from Amazon.
I recently picked up a used Galaxy phone, and it seems Samsung is making a push in that market on Amazon after hiking prices on its latest models. For the first time, their certified renewed phones are available on Amazon, complete with a new battery and a one-year warranty. The starting price is $489 for the Galaxy S24 FE with 128GB of storage, which is a significant drop from its original launch price of $649, or $699 for the latest S26 FE.
I actually got that same phone back in August after I cracked the screen on my Nothing CMF Phone 1. My used 128GB Galaxy S24 FE was only $329 on Back Market, which is over $100 cheaper than Samsung’s certified renewed option. I’ve opted for preowned phones a few times now since I don’t need to spend a fortune on a new device. I’d rather avoid going into debt with buy-now-pay-later schemes or lease-to-own plans like Apple’s Upgrade program.
My used S24 FE looks brand new, still has five years of OS updates ahead, and has been performing excellently. There are plenty of ways to snag a used phone without scouring Facebook Marketplace or eBay; for instance, Apple and Google also sell used phones at discounted prices on their online stores.
Samsung’s benefits for its certified renewed phones are appealing, especially the new battery, but similar options are available elsewhere. My S24 FE came with a one-year warranty from Back Market. While it didn’t include a new battery, I’ve had no issues getting through a couple of days on a single charge. Some third-party refurbished phones do come with new batteries, but you can also replace the battery yourself. Even if I had paid for a professional battery replacement, it would still have been cheaper overall than Samsung’s $489 price for the same pre-owned phone.
