A Highly Anticipated Battlefield 6 Feature Won’t Launch Until 2026
Platoons made their debut in Battlefield 3, serving as MMO-style clans that allowed players to build communities and connect with others beyond their immediate squad. EA had previously announced that this feature would return in Battlefield 6, as part of its 2026 roadmap revealed in April. However, recent updates indicate that players will have to wait until 2027 for its arrival.
“Platoons are set to launch in Season 5, focusing on the core aspects of social group formation in Battlefield 6. Players will be able to create or join Platoons of up to 100 members, easily team up with fellow members, and showcase their Platoon tags,” the announcement stated earlier this year. “Platoons will also feature various join settings and leadership tools for managing membership. Players teaming up with their Platoon will earn XP bonuses.”
Some fans expressed concern that this feature might be permanently removed from the franchise, alongside other anticipated additions to Battlefield 6. Platoons were initially scheduled to go live in early December, along with a server browser and new map updates. Just weeks ago, EA reaffirmed that they would be included in Season 5. However, the developers have now confirmed that the feature will not be available this year.
“We remain dedicated to providing high-quality experiences for our players,” a status update on X stated. “We have concluded that the B-81 Cavalry and our Platoons feature are not ready for deployment as they do not meet our internal quality standards.” More information regarding the updated roadmap for 2027 will be shared “after the holidays.”
Reactions from fans have varied from disappointment to disbelief. “These so-called ‘features’ were basic community mechanics in previous games. It’s surprising how the team seems to have forgotten how Battlefield used to be,” one player commented on X. Another user on the subreddit questioned, “How did they not realize it wasn’t ready just a few weeks ago when the new season launched? Considering it’s a key part of the season’s content, you’d think they’d have it ready on time.”
