The Sims Mobile to Shut Down in January 2026 After Final Update

After nearly a decade of life simulation fun on smartphones, Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed that The Sims Mobile will officially shut down on January 20, 2026. The announcement marks the end of an era for one of EA’s longest-running mobile titles, which brought the beloved Sims experience to Android and iOS users worldwide.

EA Confirms Shutdown Timeline

According to EA’s official statement, The Sims Mobile servers will go offline permanently at 1:59 PM UTC (7:29 PM IST) on January 20, 2026. After that, players will no longer be able to access the game. Ahead of this closure, the title was delisted from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store on October 21, 2025, meaning no new players can download it.

The final game update was rolled out on October 20, marking the last content release before the servers go dark. This update also ended the option for players to purchase packs or spend real money in the game. However, EA clarified that any existing in-game currencies — such as SimCash, Simoleons, and Tickets — can still be used until the shutdown date. Additionally, players have been granted unlimited energy as part of the farewell phase.

Final Events and Farewell Gifts

To celebrate its final months, The Sims Mobile has launched a series of special events, giving players a chance to enjoy the game one last time. These include Eerie Autumn, Cozier Home, Foxbury Institute, Sweet Holiday, and New Year’s Dock and Roll, among others — all designed to revisit the game’s most popular seasonal themes.

EA has also planned one last gift for loyal fans. Starting January 6, 2026, all Build Mode and Create-A-Sim (CAS) items will be unlocked for every player, including previously premium or level-restricted content. That means players can access every piece of furniture, décor, and customization option ever added to the game — completely free. EA says this move is meant to allow fans to “build their dream homes and enjoy every feature” before the servers close for good.

The End of an Era for Mobile Sims Fans

Released in 2018, The Sims Mobile aimed to bring the depth of The Sims franchise to handheld devices, letting players design homes, customize characters, and live out virtual lives on the go. Over the years, the game built a strong global community and received numerous updates featuring seasonal events, storylines, and collaborations.

While EA has not revealed specific reasons for the shutdown, industry observers note that mobile games typically face lifecycle limits due to declining engagement and maintenance costs.

For fans, this marks a bittersweet farewell — but also a chance to revisit every aspect of The Sims Mobile before it disappears forever. Players can still enjoy all unlocked content until January 20, 2026, when the servers officially close and the beloved mobile life simulator says its final goodbye.
