Fallout Creator Joins Obsidian for an Unexpected New Game Project
Tim Cain, the mastermind behind the Fallout series and a key designer and programmer for the first two titles, has made his way back to Obsidian Entertainment after departing in 2020. He shared this update on his YouTube channel, hinting that he’s currently immersed in a new project, though he’s keeping the details under wraps for now.
“I should point out that I’m back at Obsidian,” he mentioned in the latest episode of his vlog, Cain on Games. “I’m a full-time employee now and working on-site, so I’m not a contractor anymore.”
During his previous tenure at Obsidian, Cain co-directed the original The Outer Worlds. For the sequel, he took on the role of an external creative consultant. Before diving into those projects, he contributed to South Park: The Stick of Truth (2014), Pillars of Eternity (2015), and Tyranny (2016) at the studio.
As for his current work at Obsidian, that’s still a mystery. “I also can’t talk about the project I’m working on at Obsidian just because, you know, that’s covered under NDA,” he clarified. “Don’t bother guessing. You’re not going to guess, right?”
There are plenty of possibilities for what he could be developing, ranging from a potential Outer Worlds 3 to a new Fallout installment. Like Bethesda, Obsidian is part of Xbox Game Studios, and they are also known for creating one of the most beloved entries in the Fallout franchise, New Vegas.
With the second season of Prime Video’s Fallout series set to explore New Vegas soon, a direct sequel that bridges the gap between the game’s conclusion and the series’ events would certainly be an exciting prospect.
Whatever project Cain is working on, fans are eager to see what the creative force behind the original Fallout has in store.
