New Dragon Ball Movie in the Works, Says Torishima

Dragon Ball enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the Genkidamatsuri event in January for fresh franchise updates may have just received a significant hint. During a casual chat on the KosoKoso podcast, renowned Dragon Ball editor Kazuhiko Torishima hinted at a new movie in development.

Torishima stated, “You can look forward to the next Dragon Ball movie,” as shared by a user on X, who also posted the relevant clip from the podcast. KosoKoso is a Japanese podcast hosted by Torishima alongside Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii. Torishima is a legendary figure in the manga world, having served as the editor-in-chief of Weekly Shonen Jump, Shueisha’s flagship manga magazine, and later as the senior managing director of the company. Under his guidance, Weekly Shonen Jump launched iconic series like Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, and One Piece.

Despite his impressive background, Torishima hasn’t been officially involved with Dragon Ball for quite some time. He departed from Shueisha in 2015 to join Hakusensha and later Bushiroad. In the same podcast, he didn’t hold back in criticizing the new Dragon Ball Store in Tokyo, labeling it “beneath shit,” and he also made pointed remarks about an unnamed individual many fans believe to be Akio Iyoku, the president of Capsule Corporation Tokyo, which has managed Dragon Ball operations since Akira Toriyama’s passing.

While Torishima’s comment doesn’t guarantee a new Dragon Ball movie is on the horizon, it certainly stirred excitement within the community. It’s been confirmed that two major projects will be unveiled at the Genkidamatsuri event on January 25, 2026, and one of them could very well be a new film. Fans have long been yearning for a continuation of the Dragon Ball Super saga, and a movie could be the perfect avenue to adapt the Moro arc. With the Dragon Ball Super manga still on hiatus, Torishima’s words offer a glimmer of hope during a challenging time for fans.

Torishima is a multifaceted figure, celebrated for his achievements but also known for his tough editing style and some recent controversial remarks regarding Dragon Ball Daima. In the same breath, he criticized the current trajectory of the franchise while simultaneously igniting hope for more Dragon Ball content in the near future.
