Bethesda Continues to Milk Skyrim with Upcoming Switch 2 Release

The quest to bring The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to every conceivable platform rolls on. Bethesda has just revealed that the beloved open-world RPG is making its way to the Switch 2. The best part? You can dive into this new version right now, and if you own the Anniversary Edition on Switch, it’s completely free.

On December 9, a trailer dropped showcasing the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of this classic 2011 RPG. It’s unmistakably Skyrim, a game that feels like it’s been part of my gaming journey forever, though its visuals are showing their age more than I anticipated.

The Switch 2 version of Skyrim: Anniversary Edition is priced at $60. However, if you already have the original Switch version of the Anniversary Edition, you can grab the Switch 2 version at no extra cost. For those who own the older, non-Anniversary Edition of Skyrim on Switch, an upgrade will set you back $20.

So, what’s new in this version of Skyrim for Switch 2? Bethesda promises faster load times and improved performance compared to the original Switch. It also features enhanced resolution and DLSS anti-aliasing. Plus, it supports mouse controls, motion controls, and Amiibo, along with the classic Legend of Zelda-themed cosmetic DLC from the previous Switch port.

Did we really need another way to experience Skyrim in 2025? Probably not. But I have a feeling this will be a hit, and I’m already looking forward to writing about Skyrim’s inevitable port to the PlayStation 6 in a few years. In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait for The Elder Scrolls 6… eventually.
