World of Warcraft Players Are Taking to the Skies with Flying Houses, and Blizzard Is Onboard

Last week, after a long wait of two decades, player housing finally made its debut in the beloved MMORPG. Almost immediately, players discovered a way to make their homes float in the air. Instead of removing this unintended feature, the developers have decided to embrace it, albeit with some caveats.

In a recent update, a community manager shared that shortly after the latest patch went live, inventive players uncovered hidden hotkeys that allowed them to elevate their homes. The community is still debating whether this was a bug, but it’s clear that floating houses weren’t part of the original design. Rather than patching out the hotkeys and stifling player creativity, the developers are making this feature official and adding user interface elements to help everyone lift their homes into the sky.

However, there are a couple of important notes for those eager to take their living spaces to new heights: “The underside of houses isn’t modeled or textured. Players who elevate their homes may want to conceal that area with other objects,” the community manager explained. Additionally, “If you raise your house, accessing the door might become tricky. Consider building a ramp, a jumping puzzle, or a landing spot for mounts.”

It’s exciting to see the developers acknowledge the fun players are having with floating homes—creating everything from flying ships to magical towers—and choosing to make this feature a permanent part of the game.

To further enhance the experience, the developers have also increased the number of items players can place on the exterior of their homes from 200 to 250. These updates are now live following a scheduled maintenance period.
