BOOM Esports Shuts Down Dota 2 Team Ahead of New Ventures

BOOM Esports has officially disbanded its Dota 2 division, marking the end of a significant chapter in Southeast Asia’s competitive gaming landscape.

The announcement was made on December 8 via the team’s social media, where they expressed gratitude to their players and fans while hinting at an exciting new direction for the organization.

In their message on X (formerly Twitter), BOOM conveyed a heartfelt farewell to their Dota 2 division: “Today we say goodbye to our Dota 2 division. A journey filled with passion, challenges, and memories we will always carry with us. Thank you to every player who wore the BOOM jersey with pride. Thank you to the Hungry Beast for standing beside us through every high and every low.”

The post featured nostalgic images of past rosters and unforgettable tournament moments, celebrating the team’s legacy in the competitive scene.

BOOM made its debut in Dota 2 in 2017 and quickly became a recognized name at Majors and The International qualifiers. While the organization enjoyed robust regional support, recent seasons proved challenging. Their performance declined throughout 2024 and 2025, often resulting in early exits from group stages and struggles in lower-tier competitions.

The final roster, consisting of TIMS, JaCkky, Armel, Jabz, and Jaunuel, came together after numerous roster changes over the past two years. Previous players like Fbz and Mac also received farewell messages, highlighting the ongoing rebuilding efforts the team faced.

At The International 2025, BOOM’s journey concluded in the group stage following a 1-2 loss to Wildcard, adding to a series of tough results leading up to the disbandment.

The organization framed this decision as a transition rather than an end. Their announcement concluded with, “Stay with us as we begin our next adventure,” indicating a focus on strengthening other divisions or exploring new opportunities. BOOM Esports already has active rosters in VALORANT, PUBG Mobile, and Honor of Kings, providing a solid foundation for future endeavors.

The future for the departing Dota 2 players is now uncertain, with tracking sites already listing them as free agents. Given their experience and visibility in the SEA region, many anticipate they will find new teams as the season progresses.

For fans in Indonesia and across Southeast Asia, this news signifies the end of an era. BOOM’s Dota 2 journey was filled with memorable highs, painful lows, and a strong identity that resonated throughout the region. With the division now closed, all eyes are on what the organization will pursue next and where the former roster members will continue their careers.
