Xbox Unveils January Developer Direct Showcasing Fable and Forza Horizon 6 Development Teams

While the gaming community was buzzing about The Game Awards 2025, Xbox made a low-key announcement about the return of its annual Developer Direct showcase next month, featuring Playground Games.

In a conversation with an outlet, Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the showcase. However, he confirmed that the UK-based studio, known for its work on the Fable reboot and Forza Horizon 6, will be in attendance.

“I can’t share exactly what’s there, but we’ve got a lot of stuff that we’re shipping next year,” Booty mentioned. “Typically, Dev Direct focuses on what’s coming up for the year ahead. This time, we have more content than we can fit into a single show… We have more to deliver next year than can be showcased in one Dev Direct in January, which is a great position to be in.”

Booty didn’t specify whether Playground Games would be discussing Fable or Forza Horizon 6, but with both titles set for release next year, it’s likely we’ll get a glimpse of what the developers are working on. Fable aims to reboot the beloved RPG series known for its quirky humor and vibrant choices, while Forza Horizon 6 is set to take the open-world racing experience to Japan.

What other Xbox Series X titles might make an appearance? So far, there are announcements for Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day, both slated for 2026. With Halo, Gears, Fable, and Forza in the mix, it seems like a solid lineup to celebrate the console maker’s 25th anniversary. There’s also a chance we could see an unannounced title or perhaps something like State of Decay 3.

To stay updated on all the upcoming releases, keep an eye on the latest game announcements for 2025 and beyond.
