Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Developers Express Disappointment After Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Sweeps Awards
It’s the morning after The Game Awards, and the gaming community is buzzing with reactions to the new titles unveiled, the major wins, and everything in between. However, not everyone in the industry is celebrating, as evidenced by the posts from Warhorse Studios, the team behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
With nine awards, including the prestigious Game of the Year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has certainly made a mark at the event. Yet, its success hasn’t been well-received by all the nominees from 2025. Warhorse Studios took to social media to express their feelings about the results, and let’s just say, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.
Communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling made a bold statement in a post, declaring, “We have officially been robbed!” Accompanying this was an image of a Game Awards trophy, suggesting that the “robbery” refers to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 losing out to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The sequel to Kingdom Come lost in three categories: Game of the Year, Best Narrative, and Best RPG.
The official Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 account also kicked off an online thread following the losses, starting with a meme featuring the “this is fine” dog amidst flames. The developers later chimed in with a follow-up comment, saying, “and yes, it was a double oopsie.” This was likely in reference to their earlier losses in the Best Narrative and Best RPG categories, as indicated by the timestamps.
While many fans rallied to support the developers, not everyone appreciated their post-Game Awards commentary. One user criticized their approach, stating, “This is unprofessional, immature, and incredibly disrespectful to your peers in the gaming industry who rightfully worked hard for their awards and success. Maybe if you even remotely tried being a ‘team player’ in the industry, the ‘team’ would recognize you more often.”
On a lighter note, Warhorse Studios founder Daniel Vávra shared a humorous yet more positive take on the situation, joking that his journey home serves as a reminder that his game lost to the French title Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. “And on top of all that, I am flying with Air France tomorrow. But, of course, big congrats to Sandfall.”
Here’s hoping the atmosphere improves moving forward—2025 has been a significant year for gaming, especially for RPGs, and there are only so many awards to go around.
