Larian CEO: “After 29 years of RPGs, we’ve crafted the Divinity game we’ve always envisioned, and you’re in for a great time!”
Christmas has come early this year with The Game Awards, which has emerged as one of the standout gaming events of 2025, showcasing some major reveals – including Divinity, an exciting new RPG in development by the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios.
It turns out that the cryptic teaser from The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley wasn’t hinting at any Half-Life 3 news, Diablo 4 DLC, a new God of War installment, or a trailer for The Elder Scrolls 6. Instead, the mysterious structure he shared was the Hellstone, directly from Divinity, the surprise title (not Divinity: Original Sin 3) that Larian Studios unveiled last night. The excitement is palpable, especially with the insights shared by the developers.
Studio lead Swen Vincke has called Divinity “our biggest, most ambitious RPG yet” following the event, and in a recent press release, he mentioned that this marks the “beginning” of something truly expansive. “Despite our long history with the series, this is our first game entitled ‘Divinity,'” Vincke stated. “We’re ready to bring everything we’ve done previously into one place.”
He elaborated that this new Divinity is the realization of Larian Studios’ long-held aspirations: “This marks the beginning of something with more breadth, depth, and intimacy than anything we’ve created before. We’ve been building toward this moment ever since we took our fate into our own hands. This is the Divinity we’ve always wanted to make, and you’re going to have loads of fun with it.” As a fan of Baldur’s Gate 3, I’m definitely looking forward to it.
The previous Divinity games are already considered gems in the genre, and thankfully, this new RPG is designed to be accessible for both newcomers and longtime fans. The press release describes it as “a brand-new game” that doesn’t require prior experience with Larian Studios’ titles. However, those who have played Divinity: Original Sin or its sequel will find “greater understanding and continuity.”
I can’t wait to jump into Divinity, but I’m also curious about the team’s other project, codenamed Excalibur. Vincke humorously mentioned last year that he’s still trying to “figure out what the hell it is.” Here’s hoping both games turn out to be fantastic.
