New Star Wars: Galactic Racer Unveiled at The Game Awards
At The Game Awards, a new Star Wars game was unveiled: Star Wars: Galactic Racer. This title is part of a growing lineup of upcoming Star Wars games, but it stands out by focusing on high-speed racing through iconic Star Wars locales at breakneck speeds. While it pays tribute to Episode 1: Racer, which centered on podracing, Galactic Racer showcases a wider array of vehicles, including speeders and speederbikes. The teaser trailer introduced several fresh vehicle designs that maintain the classic Star Wars aesthetic. It also featured a racetrack set on Jakku, prominently displaying the AT-AT graveyard from Episode IX. The trailer concluded with a nod to Sebulba, the notorious racer who competed against Anakin Skywalker in Episode 1, which is sure to excite fans.
The single-player campaign will follow a new character named Shade, a racer on a quest for glory and revenge within the elite racing circuit. Players will have the opportunity to upgrade their vehicles, face off against rivals, and race across diverse planets. In a discussion on the official Star Wars site, the co-founder of Fuse Games, Matt Webster, along with Douglas Reilly, vice president and general manager of Lucasfilm Games, highlighted their team’s background in the Need for Speed and Burnout franchises. They hinted that Sebulba’s cameo could lead to a deeper narrative exploring his fate after Episode 1, though they kept specific details under wraps. The interview also provided insights into the variety of vehicles, such as skim speeders that reward players for maintaining momentum, contrasted with speederbikes that excel in acceleration but require careful braking in turns. Additionally, another new Star Wars title was announced, taking players back to The Old Republic era with Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic.
