Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Sets a New Milestone at The Game Awards
After setting a new benchmark for the most nominations in The Game Awards’ history, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has now claimed the title of the most awarded game in the event’s 12-year run. With 13 nominations under its belt, this debut title from Sandfall Interactive walked away with nine awards, including the coveted Game of the Year. Expedition 33 also triumphed in categories such as Best Narrative, Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, Best Performance (Jennifer English), and Best RPG. Previously, the record for the most wins in a single night was held by The Last of Us: Part II, which snagged seven awards at the 2020 ceremony, along with the Most Anticipated Game award in 2017. Other notable winners at The Game Awards include God of War: Ragnarok and Baldur’s Gate 3, each with five wins, while Overwatch and Astro Bot both secured four in their respective launch years. While Expedition 33 dominated the spotlight at the 2025 awards, it wasn’t the only standout; other winners included Hades 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Donkey Kong: Bananza, Battlefield 6, Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and No Man’s Sky. Additionally, Expedition 33 has been recognized as GameSpot’s Game of the Year.
