Baldur’s Gate 3 Director Celebrates Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s Big Win at The Game Awards: “What a Sweep!”
In a highly anticipated outcome, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 dominated The Game Awards, claiming victory in nearly every category it was nominated for, including the prestigious Game of the Year. Larian, the powerhouse behind 2023’s hit RPG, has been celebrating the success of its fellow developers during this momentous occasion.
Swen Vincke, founder of Larian Studios and director of Baldur’s Gate 3, took to social media to congratulate Sandfall Interactive on their remarkable achievement. “Congratulations,” he tweeted, tagging the studio shortly after Expedition 33 was announced as the Game of the Year winner. “What a sweep!!!”
While Sandfall has certainly amassed a collection of awards from The Game Awards and other gaming accolades, they fell just short of a complete sweep. Battlefield 6 snagged the award for Best Audio Design, edging out the acclaimed RPG along with competitors like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Ghost of Yotei, and Silent Hill f.
In the Players Voice category, Wuthering Waves took the win, surpassing Clair Obscur, Dispatch, Genshin Impact, and Hollow Knight: Silksong. With such a competitive lineup, there’s no shame in not walking away with a trophy.
After collecting several Golden Joysticks earlier this year, Sandfall might need to expand their trophy cabinet. Larian faced a similar situation in 2023 when Baldur’s Gate 3 racked up numerous awards.
It’s interesting to note that while Larian secured six out of nine nominations at the 2023 awards, Sandfall achieved an impressive nine out of eleven. The weight of success can be a heavy load, but these developers carry it with style.
Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi also expressed his admiration for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, acknowledging that the JRPG legend inspired him to pursue a career in game development.
