Rockstar Responds to Leaked GTA 6 Features as Union Claims Their Statement is Full of Misinformation

Following a significant shake-up at Rockstar Games, where over 30 employees were let go, the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain has stated that the affected developers should have been “legally protected” in their discussions about working conditions. However, the situation remains contentious.

There’s been a back-and-forth between the two parties. Rockstar asserted that the firings were a result of internal leaks of “confidential information” and insisted that these actions were “in no way related to people’s right to join a union.” They specifically accused former employees of “distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum.” The IWGB countered this claim, clarifying that the so-called “public forum” was actually a private Discord server.

According to the IWGB, developers used the server to talk about “their material conditions at the company, and they should be legally protected to do that.” In response, Rockstar reiterated its stance, claiming that employees leaked “specific game features from upcoming and unannounced titles” and labeled the union-busting allegations as “false and misleading.” The IWGB responded to this assertion, stating that Rockstar’s latest comments are filled with inaccuracies and misinformation. They accused the studio of “mischaracterizing” the actions of the dismissed developers, noting that Rockstar has provided multiple, conflicting explanations for the firings, as if trying to justify their decisions retroactively. The union emphasized that discussing working conditions in a private forum should not be equated with leaking information.

The IWGB concluded by expressing that Rockstar’s statement appears to be a desperate attempt to divert attention from the global scrutiny they have faced in recent weeks. This includes reactions from the UK Prime Minister and widespread protests from game developers around the world, all focused on Rockstar’s treatment of its employees.

For those unaware, the situation even reached the UK Parliament last month, where an MP inquired about “what steps can be taken” to support the former developers. Just weeks later, Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the situation as a “deeply concerning case” and pledged to “look into” the alleged union-busting activities. Clearly, the firings have not gone unnoticed.

Here’s hoping for a positive resolution for the former employees and for others who might benefit from any actions taken. The video game industry is facing tough times, and the situation of the ex-Grand Theft Auto 6 developers is no exception.

GTA 6 enthusiasts believe they’ve uncovered a hint in the latest GTA Online update, as one character is curiously “moving out of state.”
