Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor star in the thrilling first trailer for Spielberg’s UFO mystery.

The first trailer for the enigmatic UFO film Disclosure Day has dropped, and it’s as captivating as we anticipated.

The teaser kicks off with a chilling tone, featuring an unseen voice asking, “If you discovered we weren’t alone, if someone proved it to you… would that scare you?” As this question hangs in the air, we’re treated to a series of unsettling images: a crucifix clutched in a hand, a wide-eyed girl sitting up in bed, and a group of stags peering through a window. It’s definitely eerie.

Things take a darker twist when Emily Blunt’s weather anchor goes live from Kansas City, only to abruptly freeze mid-broadcast and emit unsettling, inhuman sounds.

“People have a right to know the truth,” declares Josh O’Connor’s character in a later scene. “It belongs to 7 billion people.”

“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you, so I’m going to show you,” he continues when pressed about the truth he’s referencing. “Full disclosure to the whole world, all at once.” Following this, we see more classic extraterrestrial imagery, including crop circles and high-tech government control rooms.

The supporting cast features Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Wyatt Russell, and Colman Domingo, with the script penned by Spielberg’s frequent collaborator, David Koepp.

The teaser comes shortly after mysterious billboards for Disclosure Day appeared in Los Angeles and New York City, teasing that “all will be disclosed” on its June 12 release. The artwork was cryptic, showcasing an upside-down eye and an eyebrow, with the figure depicted having unnaturally pale skin and surrounded by dark, wing-like shapes.

Now, it seems those wings likely belong to a cardinal, as glimpsed in the trailer. The significance of this is still unclear, but it’s interesting to note that cardinals are known for their territorial nature, often confronting intruders, predators, and even their own reflections if they mistake them for rivals. Could humans react similarly if Earth faced a “threat”?

As we await Disclosure Day, dive into our selections of the best sci-fi films ever made.
