Todd Howard assures fans that Elder Scrolls 6 is making great strides, with most of the studio focused on the highly anticipated sequel, emphasizing their thorough pre-production process.
The Elder Scrolls 6 might still be a ways off, but Todd Howard has shared some encouraging news: development on this highly anticipated successor to Skyrim is “progressing really well,” with most of the studio dedicated to it.
Recently, Howard stirred up some confusion by mentioning that Fallout 76 was the game Bethesda Game Studios was focusing on the most. However, he has since clarified that the majority of the team is indeed working on Elder Scrolls 6, which is fitting for such a sought-after title.
“[Elder Scrolls 6 is] progressing really well,” Howard stated. “The majority of the studio’s on VI, but I’ll say this: We always overlap. So, we’re very used to overlapping development. And we have long pre-productions on things so that we feel good about them. And it’s a process. We all wish it went a little bit faster – or a lot faster – but it’s a process that we want to get right.”
Naturally, updates like this may not do much to satisfy fans who have been eagerly awaiting news on Elder Scrolls 6, especially after the game was absent from the 2025 Game Awards. Howard himself has acknowledged that it’s been “too long” since the last Elder Scrolls installment, and with Skyrim recently celebrating its 14th anniversary, that sentiment rings true. It’s been over seven years since the sequel was officially announced with a brief teaser at E3 in 2018, and there’s still no clear timeline for when we might see more.
In the meantime, here are some games like Skyrim that should help tide you over until Elder Scrolls 6 finally arrives.
