First Trailer Unveils Steven Spielberg’s Long-Awaited UFO Mystery Film
At long last, we have details about Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film. The director and Universal Pictures have kept the 2026 project under wraps, revealing only that it’s a sci-fi story centered around UFOs. Now, we finally have a glimpse with the trailer for the film, titled *Disclosure Day*, which is being shown alongside screenings of *Avatar: Fire and Ash*. And it looks… intriguing.
The *Disclosure Day* teaser trailer hints at an alien invasion, though it’s unclear if the encounter will be friendly or hostile. This first look focuses less on the extraterrestrial beings themselves, who may be influencing Earth’s wildlife, and more on the global reaction of seven billion people grappling with the reality of their situation. The catalyst for this upheaval appears to be a newscast. A character portrayed by Emily Blunt is set to deliver the weather report when she suddenly begins to emit a series of bizarre gurgles and clicks. From that moment, the world gradually uncovers the truth, as characters played by Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Eve Hewson confront the existence of alien intelligence.
While a full synopsis hasn’t been shared yet, key dialogue from the trailer suggests a central theme: “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?” This seems to echo Spielberg’s long-standing interest in how alien life interacts with humanity, a theme he has explored in classics like *Close Encounters of the Third Kind*, *E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial*, and *War of the Worlds*.
*Disclosure Day* is directed by Spielberg, with a script penned by his longtime collaborator David Koepp, based on a story by Spielberg himself. Koepp has previously worked on scripts for *Jurassic Park*, *The Lost World: Jurassic Park*, *War of the Worlds*, and *Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull*. His other writing credits include *Spider-Man*, *Stir of Echoes*, *Mission: Impossible*, and the critically acclaimed *Black Bag* from director Steven Soderbergh. Legendary composer John Williams is once again joining forces with Spielberg to provide the score for *Disclosure Day*.
Mark your calendars: *Disclosure Day* is set to hit theaters on June 12, 2026. This will be Spielberg’s first film since the semi-autobiographical *The Fabelmans* and his return to the sci-fi genre since 2018’s *Ready Player One*.
